Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), India has taken a fore step in climate resilience and adaptation programmes by launching National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) in February, 2011. The mega project has three major objectives of strategic research, technology demonstrations and capacity building. Assessment of the impact of climate change simultaneous with formulation of adaptive strategies is the prime approach under strategic research across all sectors of agriculture, dairying and fisheries.

As a part of this national programme, a project entitled “Gender Specific Adaptation Programmes in Response to Climate Change in Coastal Eco- Systems” was approved under competitive grants for a period of 3 Years from 2016 to 2019 to analyze the changing roles of fisher folk and tribal society with the advent of uncertainties due to climatic aberrations in a gender perspective.
